The pear - Tasty fruit full of healthy ingredients

At the moment, pears are in season in Switzerland; it's good to know that the sweet fruits not only taste delicious, but also have many health-promoting properties.

Pears, for example, are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. For example, one pear contains about 13 percent of the daily requirement of vitamin C, copper and potassium. Vitamin C is involved in various metabolic processes. Among other things, the body needs it to build connective tissue, bones and teeth. It also has an important function in the immune system and as an antioxidant, and it improves the utilization of iron from plant foods. In addition, vitamin C inhibits the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines. Copper, on the other hand, is very important for the formation of connective tissue and for good functioning of the brain and nervous system. Among other things, potassium is jointly responsible for maintaining osmotic pressure, electrolyte homeostasis and acid-base balance. It also plays a role in the transmission of nerve impulses and is thus important for muscle and heart function and the regulation of blood pressure.

Pear skin contains flavonoids, phenol and triterpenes, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, so it is best not to peel pears (as well as other fruits). Pears are used in many countries as an anti-inflammatory, diuretic and blood sugar-lowering remedy.

Studies show that pears also have solid scientific benefits. For example, they can protect against stroke and even some cancers. Pears support kidney function (diuretic) and can help with edema (water retention in the tissues), especially leg edema during pregnancy. Pears, or contained ingredients, are highly recommended to support cell growth and repair and prevention of oxidative damage.

With a regular consumption of pears, you can reduce the risk of diabetes and stroke. A study conducted over a ten-year period with almost 75,000 people shows that regular consumption of pears can significantly reduce the risk of stroke and the risk of coronary heart disease, hypertension, as well as diabetes.

A pear a day can further help women burn fat and lose weight. So grab generously from the currently seasonal and fresh pear assortment and pay attention to organic quality, so that all the mentioned phytonutrients are preserved.
