WHAT IS COLOX®?
Colox® is a molecular test that detects colorectal cancer through a simple blood test. The test measures the response of the immune system and can accurately and reliably detect both adenomatous polyps and early stages of colorectal cancer, allowing the identification of colorectal cancer risk cases to better assess the need for subsequent colonoscopy.
WHY COLOX®?
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in Switzerland: 4200 new cases are detected every year. Early detection significantly improves the chances of survival. The Colox® test is a simple test because all that is needed is a blood sample. Other tests, on the other hand, are more invasive and cumbersome due to the need to prepare the intestine or handle the stool. In addition, hospitalization is not necessary.
HOW DOES COLOX® WORK?
Colox® is a molecular test that combines 29 biomarkers ARN with 2 protein biomarkers to determine a positive or negative result. The RNA markers provide an important feature for early detection as they change in the early stages of development of a lesion. The protein markers from tumor tissue, on the other hand, ensure specificity. The change in biomarkers may indicate the presence of a colorectal tumor.
