Interval hypoxia-hyperoxia training (IHHT) originates from space travel and is a highly effective training for energy metabolism at the cellular level. Our body consists of 80 trillion cells. In almost every one of these cells, so-called mitochondria provide the necessary cell energy - they form the small power stations of a cell. IHHT improves the work of these mitochondria. On the one hand, IHHT destroys damaged mitochondria, on the other hand, it stimulates the multiplication of healthy mitochondria. After this kind of cell rehabilitation, the patient's organism finally has cells with numerous healthy mitochondria.

Short video: What are mitochondria?

The key element of energy production in the mitochondria is oxygen. Therefore, oxygen is of central importance in IHHT. The devices supply the organism with controlled breathing air with fluctuating oxygen content (varying oxygen pressure). A phase with a lack of oxygen (hypoxia) follows a phase with an excess of oxygen (hyperoxia). Every cell reacts to this and tries to balance these two different stimulus phases. This is the core process of this cell training, which ultimately has a similar effect to altitude training.

Possible Uses and Effects

IHHT can be used to specifically train and support energy production in the cells. This helps to promote overall performance and vitality.

  • Strengthening the immune system

  • Improvement of the oxygen supply to the cells

  • Improvement of the energy production of the cells (activation of the energy metabolism)

  • Higher fat burning / weight loss support

  • Better blood circulation to the organs

  • Balancing the autonomic nervous system (VNS)

  • Increase in the ability to perform and concentrate

  • Increased performance of the cardiovascular system (heart, vessels)

  • Improvement of sleep quality and stress resistance

  • Shortens the regeneration times

  • Ensures balanced hormone production

  • Supports formation of new blood vessel capillaries

  • Gives weakened organs a chance to recover

In addition to treating exhausted patients, the devices are also used successfully in competitive sports. IHHT also helps with chronic diseases, immune deficiency, Lyme disease, ADHD, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), depression, skin problems, vascular problems, lung and respiratory problems (asthma), migraines and headaches, issues with muscles, connective tissue, bones, and other tissues, neurodegenerative diseases, kidney and bladder problems, and digestive disorders. The device alleviates menstrual cramps and supports fertility efforts and pregnancy.

Cancer patients may also use IHHT cellular therapy as a complementary treatment—but only under medical supervision. Therefore, please always schedule an appointment with one of our doctors in Winterthur first.

treatment - in professional hands

Treatment starts with a careful assessment of the patient's state of health by our doctors/therapists or medical practice assistants.

The actual cell training is done lying down and usually lasts 50 minutes. The patient breathes in and out calmly through a special breathing mask and relaxes. During this time, central measurement data is recorded.

The VNS analysis is used to control the IHHT. This analysis is repeated after about five sessions as well as at the end of the treatment. This allows us to determine objective changes and - paired with the subjective feeling of the patient - to summarise them into an overall result of the IHHT treatment.

Important Note:

IHHT is not a mandatory service under the KVG and is not covered by basic health insurance.
